Oklahoma's Bryce Perry and Samaje Perine are the 2016-17 Big 12 Sportspersons of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday.
Perry was a member of the cross country and track and field teams while Perine was a football standout.
The awards began in 2000-01 to annually recognize student-athletes who displayed "an extraordinary degree of sportsmanship, community service and academic achievement."
The winners are selected by a media panel.
During the Big 12 Cross Country Championship, Perry struggled after resuming her training just two weeks before the championship.
When TCU's Emily Suarez, who was running next to Perry, collapsed to the ground with about a mile to go, Perry encouraged and helped Suarez back to her feet.
