Sooners' surge in January has OU basketball aiming even higher: 'We gotta be special, even though we’re never satisfied'

It wasn’t long ago that OU was on the NCAA Tournament bubble, bouncing from side to side from game to game, staring down a daunting January schedule.

But the Sooners turned in a January for the ages, becoming just the third team since The Associated Press poll began in 1948-49 to knock off four top-10 opponents in a calendar month.

The others were North Carolina State in January 1974 and St. Joseph’s in December 1964.

OU’s 6-2 record in January was its best in January or February since going 7-2 in January 2016, the year the Sooners made the Final Four.
