Oklahoma's new look offense officially has a new signal caller. Early on Monday afternoon Oklahoma confirmed early reports that Baker Mayfield would be the starting quarterback when the Sooners take the field against Akron in the season opener on September 5th.
Mayfield, who beat out Trevor Knight and Cody Thomas in a quarterback battle that has been going on since the spring, is a walk-on who transferred from Texas Tech in January of 2013. Being the most experienced of the quarterbacks in the type of offense that Lincoln Riley is installing at Oklahoma gave Mayfield a leg up on the competition.
