Sooners gain 2019 four-star DE commitment

The commitment behind Lincoln Riley's eyeball emoji tweet wasn't a secret for too long Saturday morning.

The OU head coach signaled a commitment with his signature tweet at 9:16 a.m., and less than an hour later, 2019 four-star defensive end Joseph Wete announced he was a Sooner.

Wete, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound product of Washington, D.C.'s Gonzaga College High School, is ranked as Rivals' No. 200 prospect in the 2019 class. He chose the Sooners over 18 other offers that included Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and West Virginia.

Wete is OU's 12th member of the 2019 class and first 2019 commitment since offensive lineman EJ Ndoma-Ogar made his announcement on April 25.
