Samantha Show trotted out to the pitcher’s circle Friday night with a new reputation. Something along the lines of Babe Ruth.
The Women’s College World Series has seen its share of great pitchers who also could hit with gusto. Lisa Fernandez. Keilani Ricketts. Amanda Scarborough. Dozens of others.
But the World Series never had seen a game like Show produced Thursday night in OSU’s 2-1 victory over Florida. Pitching, Show held the Gators to a solitary run, a noble achievement in this offensive era. Hitting, Show had the Cowgirls’ only two hits, both home runs. Had to be the best individual-game performance in WCWS history.
