Patty Gasso is used to the bumps that come early in the season.
So when half of the Oklahoma softball team came down with the flu during the second week of the season and an ice storm threatened to derail departure for this weekend's tournament in Palm Springs, California, Gasso couldn't help but laugh.
“It's always something,” she said. “The first part of our season never really goes very smoothly so this isn't a surprise to us.”
With the aftereffects of the flu still hanging around, the No. 4 Sooners are preparing for their 13th consecutive appearance in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where they'll face Arizona State, Team Japan, Arizona, North Carolina and Brigham Young on the heels of their first loss of the season.
