On what will be our final night in Pittsburgh, we went to church. Well, not church. A church. Well, not a church. What used to be a church.
We had dinner at the Church Brew Works, a brewpub in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The building was constructed in 1902 and until 1993 served as home of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. With all the traditional trappings of a massive cathedral. Stained-glass windows. High ceilings. Massive columns. Elaborate arched stage.
But the church closed and the building sat dormant for three years. Then the building underwent extensive renovations and opened as a restaurant in 1996.
