For the second time in three days, Oklahoma point guard Trae Young received a conference newcomer of the year honor but missed out on player of the year.
Young was named the Associated Press Big 12 newcomer of the year Tuesday after receiving the same honor from the league's coaches Sunday. However, as with the coaches' voting, Kansas senior Devonte' Graham was named the AP Big 12 player of the year despite Young leading the nation in scoring and assists as a freshman.
Young and Graham were both unanimous members of the AP's All-Big 12 first team, on which Texas Tech's Keenan Evans, West Virginia's Jevon Carter and Texas' Mohamed Bamba joined them.
