OU women's basketball: 'Baptism by fire' as freshmen could benefit this season's Oklahoma sophomores

NORMAN — Last year was hard for Sherri Coale.

Coale’s Sooners finished 8-22, Oklahoma’s worst season in women’s basketball since her inaugural season in 1996-97.

But, Coale said then, much better days were ahead.

A big part of that, she said, centered around the large group of freshmen that were forced to play vital roles on last season’s team as roster turnover left the Sooners with a very inexperienced group.

Though the payoff might not be most evident until further down the road, the time to start showing the benefits of last season’s growing pains begins now.
