OU softball: Sooners' streak snapped by Wisconsin in regional

NORMAN — The nation’s longest single-season winning streak is over. Wisconsin, on back-to-back squeeze bunts in the sixth inning, beat Oklahoma 2-1 on Sunday in the Norman Regional.

OU’s streak that started on Feb. 23 was snapped after 41 consecutive wins.

The Sooners managed just five hits against Wisconsin pitcher Kaitlyn Menz. One of the hits came on the first pitch OU saw. Senior third baseman Sydney Romero smashed a home run off the left-field scoreboard, but that represented OU’s lone run.

The Sooners led until the sixth inning. Shannon Saile, who came in to relieve starter Mariah Lopez, allowed a leadoff walk.
