OU softball: Sooners shut out Northwestern in super regional opener

NORMAN — Oklahoma’s lineup finally wore down the left arm of Northwestern ace Danielle Williams. It just took three times through the order.

Williams held the Sooners, who rank first nationally in a slew of offensive categories, to one hit through four innings. But a pair of fifth-inning doubles from Sydney Romero and Caleigh Clifton showed the relentless nature of OU’s offense. Those were followed by a walk, a stolen base and an error as another run crossed the plate.

No. 1 seed Oklahoma beat No. 16 seed Northwestern 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field. The Sooners are one win away from their 13th Women’s College World Series appearance.
