NORMAN — OU opened play at Marita Hynes Field with a win.
The Sooners beat Northwestern 8-3 in their home opener. After the Wildcats tied the game at 2 all in the top of the third, OU broke the game open in the bottom of the same inning, scoring five runs to carry it to the win.
OU was led by junior catcher Lynnsie Elam who went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Sophomore right fielder Grace Green also hit a bases-clearing double in the third inning that scored three runs.
The pitching was evenly split between three Sooners who all threw two and one-thirds innings.
