NORMAN — A four-year journey can’t be explained by a single swing, but Shay Knighten placed the first bookend for the saga Oklahoma’s class will soon complete.
It was Knighten, then a freshman, who finally ended a scoreless duel against Alabama with an eighth-inning, walk-off home run in the 2016 Women’s College World Series.
That was the first WCWS game for Knighten, Sydney Romero, Caleigh Clifton, Falepolima Aviu, Raegan Rogers and Kylie Lundberg. On Thursday comes the last World Series for the six-member class — likely to be known as the most successful in program history.
