A freshman From Sunny Hills High School in Buena Park, Calif., Shay Knighten eased her way right into the middle of the Oklahoma softball lineup.
The first baseman, usually slotted into the third spot in the batting order, is hitting .388 with 11 home runs and 54 runs batted in.
No stranger to playing in the spotlight during stellar prep career, and now in the Big 12 Conference, Knighten will now be on softball's biggest stage when Oklahoma opens play at the Women's College World Series.
The Sooners will face Alabama at 6 p.m. Thursday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
