Romero, Knighten and Aviu haven’t gone far. They are all part of Gasso’s staff as student assistants. Their class won two national championships and led the Sooners to a national runner-up finish last spring. With so much recent success, the expectations and goals for the program are high, both inside and outside of the gates of Marita Hynes Field.
The Sooners start the season at No. 3 in the preseason rankings. But this year’s team doesn’t feel pressured to carry on the legacy of the players that came before them. Rather, it’s about carrying on the standards of the program while creating their own legacy.
