Sooners carry superstitions into WCWS
NORMAN — Coach Patty Gasso isn't particularly superstitious. She's been coaching long enough to believe more in her players and game plan than in a few pregame routines.
But when her players ask her to go along with their superstitions, she often joins in. That's how Gasso wound up with white finger nails entering the Super Regional against Auburn.
“Coach Lombardi said, ‘keep them because I can see your signals better,'” Gasso said with a laugh.
The whole team painted their nails white ahead of the series against the Tigers, but a few — including Gasso — added in a purple accent nail on their ring fingers in memory of 8-year-old Kelsey Nalepa.
