Oklahoma president David Boren has been the most vocal advocate in the Big 12 for expansion, noting that the league will be "psychologically disadvantaged" until it returns to having 12 members.
Boren, however, will have to convince his own board of regents that expansion is the best course of action for the conference first.
Max Weitzenhoffer, Oklahoma's board of regents chairman, told ESPN.com in a phone interview that he opposes Boren's push for expansion.
"I just don't feel expansion is in the best interest of our football program," Weitzenhoffer said. "Based on all the accomplishments we achieved last year both on the field and academically, I see no need to increase the size of our conference.
