NORMAN — Lincoln Riley remembers the play. The Oklahoma coach remembers every play he’s ever been a part of, but this one in particular.
“Vividly,” Riley said, gazing as if it were on a screen in front of him.
It should have been insignificant. Most scrimmage snaps are.
Riley, then in his sophomore year at Muleshoe High School, was set to open the season as the team’s starting quarterback. Muleshoe, a West Texas town of 5,000 people, always played two scrimmages before the season.
This one was at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo, Texas. Muleshoe was facing Palo Duro High School.
