OU football: Sooners offense has been gaining steam each week since the loss to Texas

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Oklahoma came firing right out of the gate in Saturday's rout of Kansas.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield dropped back, targeted Sterling Shepard and connected on a 41-yard completion, and even though OU didn't score on that opening drive — Austin Seibert missed a field goal — the play set the tone for the rest of the 62-7 victory.

“Our mentality is definitely different,” said OU offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley.

The Sooners scored 21 points in the first quarter against the Jayhawks, continuing an encouraging three-game trend of starting fast offensively. That Oklahoma came out hot against a bad Kansas team it was heavily favored to annihilate can also be a positive sign.
