The son of former Oklahoma linebacker Reggie Barnes committed to the Sooners on Monday.
Robert Barnes, a four-star junior safety from Southlake (Texas) Carroll, announced his commitment on Twitter. Barnes (6-foot-3, 189 pounds) is ranked No. 136 overall and No. 12 in the country at safety according to Rivals.com.
Scheduled to graduate in 2017, Barnes chose the Sooners over an offer list that includes Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Nebraska among others.
Barnes is the second 2017 commit for OU, joining Mesquite (Texas) Horn quarterback Chris Robison.
Reggie Barnes played for the Sooners from 1988-1992 and served as a captain his senior season.
