NORMAN — OU made quite the splash in June 2019 when Brock Vandagriff, then the top-ranked player in the 2021 class according to Rivals, committed to the Sooners.
While it’s easy to see why Caleb Williams became a focus of OU’s quarterback-recruiting efforts after Vandagriff decommitted Jan. 1, the way Williams responded to Vandagriff announcing his initial decision made the choice to pursue Williams much easier for Lincoln Riley and his staff.
“Probably one of the things that really drew me to him was when we had a previous player committed, he and his father were willing to come here and walk-on,” Riley said Wednesday after Williams, who had been committed to the Sooners since July 4, was one of 16 players OU signed in the 2021 class.
