NORMAN — Derek Farniok hoped to start at tackle for Oklahoma this season.
But after being in the mix until late in preseason camp, redshirt freshman Orlando Brown won the job and Farniok was relegated to backup duty.
It didn't take long for Farniok to get his chance though.
The senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., shifted to guard for last week's win over Tulsa after center Ty Darlington's injury forced Jonathan Alvarez to shift from guard to center.
Farniok talked to The Oklahoman this week about his experience at guard, his last action there and the state of the offensive line among other topics.
