Trevor Knight may have lost the preseason quarterback derby to Baker Mayfield, but Knight will remain an important leader for the team.
Knight was elected a team captain for the second straight season by his teammates. In addition to Knight, center Ty Darlington, right guard Nila Kasitati, linebacker Eric Striker and defensive end Charles Tapper will be captains.
Knight and Striker were both captains last season as well.
“(Knight) has the respect of the team,” coach Bob Stoops said.
Knight has appeared in 18 games over the past two seasons — with 15 starts — and completed 57.
