NORMAN — Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said Monday that college football's new redshirt rule has created unintended consequences, and as he spoke, news from Stillwater dropped that Oklahoma State senior receiver Jalen McCleskey had elected to redshirt and transfer for the 2019 season.
McCleskey's decision comes at the four-game mark of the season. The new redshirt rule allows players to participate in up to four games and still redshirt and maintain that year of eligibility.
The rule's adoption was lauded as both a win for players and their programs, but it was expected to primarily impact freshmen.
