Lincoln Riley, 6 pounds and 13 ounces, was born Jan. 21 at 6:14 a.m.
Lincoln Riley Tapia, that is.
The son of Oklahoma super fans Leighton and Mariah Tapia, Lincoln Riley Tapia was named after OU’s 35-year-old football coach. The new Lincoln Riley was born 100 miles northeast of where his namesake grew up.
Those West Texas roots — from Midland where the Tapias live, to Muleshoe where Riley is from, to Amarillo where baby Lincoln was born — influenced the name.
“It's tiny,” Leighton Tapia said of Muleshoe, population 5,082. “It's unbelievable to know that a guy like that has made it to where he is now, but he still very much carries the small-town feel with him.
