OU football: Lincoln Riley responds to California Fair Pay to Play Act

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Monday that will allow college athletes to hire agents and profit from their name, image and likeness. It's a direct challenge to a longstanding NCAA rule that bans such actions.

The law, known as the Fair Pay to Play Act, is scheduled to take effect in California in 2023.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was asked Monday about its potential ramifications on college sports.

"Well, it's going to impact it if it does in fact happen," Riley said. "I know it's several years before it goes into effect.
