NORMAN — Kyler Murray wasn't named Oklahoma's starting quarterback until Aug. 22, a week and a half before the 2018 season kicked off.
But the so-called battle between Jalen Hurts and Tanner Mordecai could be solved sooner than that of Murray and former quarterback Austin Kendall.
"When we know, and we feel 100 percent confident in that decision, we’ll do it," coach Lincoln Riley said of naming a starter. "When that falls, I don’t know. If it’s close, then a lot of times, probably a couple weeks out of the first game, then you feel like you gotta name somebody.
