OU football: Kennedy Brooks keeps a tight grip on the football

ARLINGTON, Texas — It’s “the chicken or the egg” question.

Which came first, Kennedy Brooks’ ball security or the chance to carry a heavy load at running back?

OU coach Lincoln Riley isn’t exactly sure but said the two are intrinsically tied together.

“I think it goes both ways,” Riley said. “It’s impressive but also he got those amount of carries there (in high school) and here because he does hold onto the ball.”

In a game like the Big 12 Championship Game against Baylor (11 a.m. Saturday, ABC), where a turnover or takeaway can make the difference between winning and losing — and making or missing the College Football Playoff — knowing the Sooners have a running back like Brooks is a comfort to Riley.
