OU football: Defense hopes to silence critics after season opener

NORMAN — Oklahoma's defense is in a pursuit to change perceptions.

The Sooners, who ranked 67th in the country last season in total defense, held Florida Atlantic to 324 yards Saturday in their 63-14 win. Lane Kiffin's Owls averaged nearly 500 yards per game last season.

“We're just sick and tired of being disrespected,” senior linebacker Curtis Bolton said. “We worked so hard to come out and put our best foot forward on the field. And we just wanted to go make a statement today and show our coaches, our country, the fans, the media that we can play some real good defense.
