OU football: Creed Humphrey takes starting center job

NORMAN — It took three games, but Oklahoma's center competition has been resolved.

Redshirt freshman Creed Humphrey has taken control of the position.

"He's gonna be the guy," offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh said Monday after practice.

Humphrey, from Shawnee, had been battling with senior Jonathan Alvarez for the job. Alvarez started in Week 1, Humphrey started in Week 2, and it was Alvarez again who started Saturday against Iowa State.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley said the plan was to rotate both centers, but Humphrey will likely receive most of the first-team reps moving forward.
