NORMAN — Baker Mayfield was in Norman in late April, preparing for final exams and the quarterback competition he'd ultimately win.
Halfway across the country, Mayfield's mother was preparing for what was supposed to be a weekend getaway in Hilton Head, S.C. Gina Mayfield flew into Greenville to meet her sister and two friends for a 250-mile drive to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
