NORMAN — Sitting down at a chess board after his junior year of high school, Kennedy Brooks was a bit lost.
Brooks' friend, Don, talked him into playing.
“At first I hated it because he always beat me, but with my competitiveness, I always played him every single day,” Brooks told The Oklahoman when he signed with Oklahoma in 2017. “I remember one day, he beat me like 10 times in a row. I was so (mad). I said, ‘I'm done. I'm done with this game.'”
But Brooks' competitive fire kicked in once again and he learned the intricacies of the game.
