The Baker Mayfield era began Thursday night in Cleveland. The former Oklahoma star quarterback, in his NFL debut, led the Browns to their first win since Christmas Eve 2016.
Mayfield replaced Browns starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor with 1:42 left before halftime against the New York Jets. Taylor was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion, and he was ruled out for the game.
That meant it was Mayfield’s time.
He led the Browns to a field goal on his debut drive. His first two passes went for 14 and 17 yards. Mayfield’s lone miscue was a fumble recovered by the offense.
