NORMAN — Alex Grinch didn’t pay much attention to the 2016 Oklahoma-Texas Tech game.
Grinch heard about it, of course. The crazy numbers. The final score. Amazon rain-forest tribes heard about that Baker Mayfield/Patrick Mahomes showdown, won 66-59 by Oklahoma with each team posting 854 total yards.
But Grinch was preoccupied, coordinating Washington State’s defense and trying to keep those Cougars from the fate of those Sooners and Red Raiders. Now Grinch is OU’s defensive coordinator, and his baptism into Big 12 football comes Saturday at Owen Field, with Texas Tech in town.
“We signed up for it,” Grinch said.
