NORMAN — The Centers for Disease Control’s newly released quarantine guidelines have been immediately implemented by OU football — and all Sooners’ athletics programs — athletic director Joe Castiglione said Thursday.
“Some of the situations we’ve faced have been really exacerbated by the contact tracing, basically holding athletes out of competition because of contact tracing,” Castiglione said. “Some of them never become symptomatic.”
The immediate effectiveness of those new guidelines, which the CDC issued Wednesday, could help the Sooners’ case as they work to play Saturday’s scheduled home game against Baylor (7 p.m., Fox).
The guidelines allow for people who have been exposed to someone who tested positive to shorten their quarantine period to seven days if they haven’t displayed symptoms and have a negative test at the end of that period.
