LAWRENCE, Kan. — Rarely does the hype match the result.
Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse, it did that and more.
The Associated Press' No. 1 Kansas and USA Today coaches' No. 1 Oklahoma battled it out in a game that needed three overtimes before the Jayhawks finally prevailed 109-106.
Oklahoma's Buddy Hield had a chance to send the game to a fourth overtime, but his off-balance 3-pointer from near the top of the key was off the mark, and Jamari Traylor corralled the rebound to end one of the wildest games in recent memory.
The teams went back and forth throughout the game, with Kansas jumping ahead by double figures in the first half before the Sooners came back to take a double-digit lead of their own.
