Jim Molinari has been hired as Oklahoma's third assistant coach, an OU spokesman confirmed to The Oklahoman on Thursday.
Kruger and Molinari were college teammates at Kansas State under coach Jack Hartman in the mid-1970s. Since then, Molinari has held head coaching jobs at Northern Illinois, Bradley and Western Illinois.
He went 302-290 as a head coach with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Molinari, 64, spent the last five seasons as an assistant at Nebraska under former coach Tim Miles.
A spot came open on OU's staff when Kevin Kruger, the son of Lon Kruger, left for an assistant coaching job at UNLV.
