Haley Sorenson thought she’d finally earned a coveted spot in the OU women’s gymnastics team’s lineup for the 2015 season opening meet against Arkansas.
She had been in the lineup for the preseason meets, and three graduated former teammates had presented Sorenson an opportunity on the beam, which she has always considered her event.
But when the Sooners faced Arkansas on Jan. 9, Sorenson wasn’t in the lineup.
“I think she took her anger, and that pressure turned her into a diamond,” said OU coach K.J. Kindler.
Indeed, the walk-on senior has become one of the Sooners’ stars after spending her first three years on campus barely competing at all.
