Cade Cunningham has his first major award.
Oklahoma State’s superstar freshman was named the Big 12 Player of the Year by the conference’s coaches on Monday, becoming just the fourth freshman to receive the honor and first since OSU’s Marcus Smart in 2012-13.
Cunningham was also unanimously chosen as Freshman of the Year.
OU’s Austin Reaves was named to the first team alongside Cunningham, Baylor’s Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell, and West Virginia’s Derek Culver. Cunningham and Butler were unanimous selections.
Baylor’s Scott Drew was named Coach of the Year for a second straight year.
