Editor's note: This is the fifth of a five-part series examining potential breakout players for the Oklahoma Sooners this spring.
Patrick Fields
Year: Sophomore
Position: Safety
There isn’t a bigger question mark for the Sooners this spring than the safety position, and Patrick Fields could end up being Alex Grinch’s answer. Fields, who saw important action as a true freshman in Big 12 Championship and the Orange Bowl, looks to be the favorite to start at strong safety.
Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch confirmed as much earlier this week:
Alex Grinch said tonight that if the #Sooners had a game tomorrow, Delarrin Turner-Yell and Patrick Fields would be the two starting safeties

Fields earned rave reviews as a true freshman, but couldn’t get past Robert Barnes, Brendan Radley-Hiles or Kahlil Haughton on the depth chart.
