Oklahoma softball: Shay Knighton nominated for an ESPY Award

Knighton, a sophomore this past season, was named the Most Outstanding Player in this year’s Women’s College World Series for leading Oklahoma to back-to-back national championships in softball. In five WCWS games, Knighton batted .350, scored four runs and batted in six, including a home run and two doubles.

The Sooner first baseman, blasted a three-run homer in the 17th inning of an epic first game against Florida in the WCWS to give the Sooners a 7-5 win. The following night, in Game 2 of the championship series, Knighton stroked a bases-clearing double to erase a one-run deficit and give the Sooners all they would need for a 3-2 victory and a sweep of the Gators for the championship.
