Oklahoma Scene: Former Oklahoma quarterback dies at 92

Claude Arnold, who quarterbacked OU's 1950 national championship team, died Friday night. He was 92.

Arnold, an Okmulgee native and World War II veteran, was a back-up to Jack Mitchell and Darrell Royal in Bud Wilkinson's first three seasons as Oklahoma's head coach.

Arnold took over the starting duties in 1950 and led the Sooners to a 10-0 regular season before a Sugar Bowl loss to Kentucky. He played in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos from 1952-54.

Arnold was a long-time Oklahoma City oil man.
