Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon issued an apology to the woman he punched in 2014 at a Norman restaurant in a statement to The Oklahoman on Tuesday evening.
"For the last two years, my lawyers have advised against me speaking publicly about an incident that occurred very shorty after I arrived in Norman," Mixon said in the statement. "Today, I want to say what everyone deserves to hear from me about this matter: I am sorry."
Mixon wrote that he had turned 18 just hours before his encounter with fellow student Amelia Molitor -- who suffered several facial fractures as a result of the punch -- and was far from his home in Northern California for the first time in his life.
