NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma linebacker Addison Gumbs will miss the 2018 season after suffering a non-contact injury in practice on Friday.
Coach Lincoln Riley made that announcement after OU's 63-14 win over Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon in Norman. Gumbs was projected to replace the departed Ogbonnia Okoronkwo as OU's starting JACK linebacker.
Gumbs still has his redshirt year, so he'll return in 2019 as a sophomore. He tweeted shortly after the game:
Still, it's a tough way for the Sooners to start the year. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops called it "devastating" after the game.
"That's about as sad a deal as I've seen," Stoops said.
