Sooner offensive lineman Jonathan Alvarez and tight end Grant Calcaterra are preseason candidates for the Rimington Trophy and the Mackey Award.
Alavarez, a redshirt senior, is one of 58 college players on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, presented every season since 2000, across several college divisions, to the best center in college football. The award is named after former Nebraska All-American center Dave Rimington, who played for the Cornhuskers from 1979-82.
Calcaterra is only a sophomore, but made a strong impression playing behind All-American Mark Andrews, last year’s winner of the Mackey Award, presented annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.
