True freshman running back Trey Sermon took over the Baylor game in the fourth quarter on Saturday and almost single-handedly helped the Sooners seize victory from the jaws of defeat.
The Georgia native entered the game in the fourth quarter with Oklahoma leading 35-31 and pounded out a career-high 148 yards on the ground on 12 carries, including two touchdowns. For that performance, Sermon was recognized as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
The Oklahoma running back is making a strong case to move up on the Sooner depth chart. In OU’s first four games this season, Sermon has run for 288 yards rushing, an average of 6.
