Oklahoma football: P.J. Mbanasor still learning from rough experience against Tulsa

NORMAN — Oklahoma defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks likes to teach using examples.

That’s why he still — more than six months later — brings up the Sooners’ Sept. 19, 2015 game against Tulsa when he is coaching sophomore cornerback P.J. Mbanasor.

Because starter Jordan Thomas was suspended for that game, Mbanasor — then a true freshman — was forced into a starting role that day, and things didn’t go great. Tulsa racked up 603 yards of total offense, with 427 of those passing. The Golden Hurricane were especially effective picking on the inexperienced Mbanasor, who was mostly lined up against Tulsa senior Jordan Atkinson.
