Oklahoma football: Nila Kasitati named to Polynesian player of the year watch list

NORMAN — Oklahoma senior right guard Nila Kasitati was named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award watch list, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.

The award is presented annually to the best Polynesian college football player that displays great ability and integrity. Former Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota took the inaugural award last year.

Five finalists will be announced Nov. 19, and the winner will be announced Dec. 8, 2015. The formal presentation will be Jan. 29, 2016 at the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Weekend.

“There are nearly 300 players of Polynesian Ancestry in Division I college football today,” Jesse Sapolu, chairman and co-founder of the hall of fame, said in a news release.
