NORMAN — A panel of college football writers ranked the 18 BCS or College Football Playoff national champions in a post on CBSSports.com, and Oklahoma’s 2000 title team came in at No. 16.
The 2000 team included several iconic Sooners like quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up Josh Heupel, Roy Williams, Rocky Calmus, Derrick Strait, Torrance Marshall and Quentin Griffin.
That was coach Bob Stoops’ second team as OU’s head coach but his only national champion.
The Sooners won five games over teams that finished ranked in the AP Top-25 that season, including Florida State, Kansas State twice, Nebraska and Texas.
