The former Alabama transfer was the third Sooner selected in this year’s draft and the fifth quarterback. He is expected to be the backup to Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz, a first round pick, No. 2 overal, in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Most NFL draft experts had projected Hurts to go sometime in the second round, but Philadelphia was not one of the teams he was expected to fall to, although the Eagles didn’t have the strongest of quarterback rooms with 41-year old Josh McCowan, Nate Sudfield and Kyle Lauletta currently listed on the active roster.
Hurts had an accomplished career at Alabama, having participated in three College Football Playoff games and compiling a record of 26-2 as a starter for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide before losing his starting job to Tua Tagovailoa.
